One of the key areas in which God is building up my capacity is my character. And man does it suck! Nothing about facing your flaws is easy.
We got to this local “resort” with my husband, he got us checked in and went to see our room. He comes back to the car and says to me, “We’re only gonna spend one night here.” I was shocked because we had planned to be there at least 4 nights. So I asked him why, and he said, “I’ve seen the room. I know how you are. You won’t do more than one night here.” Determined to prove him wrong, I went to the room, and the moment I pulled back the curtain, I knew I was only gonna do one night there and only because it was too late to drive back home.
So, if a man who’s only known me for 8 years can predict my behaviour so accurately, how much more the enemy of progress who has stalked me from birth?
I was doing something for the church. You know, keeping busy and stuff. I got through one week, and my husband asked if I’ll be doing it again. I simply said, “No thanks!” He then goes on to read me for filth and how I’m quite the fixer-upper, pronounced ‘giver-upper’. I don’t know what they had done to him at work that day because he wasn’t sparing any of my feelings. He painted quite the picture of how I’m quick to throw in the towel at any minor inconvenience. Hawu! My mother raised a quitter.
One of my favourite songs from Phineas and Ferb is Candace’s ‘I gave up’. And that tracks because you can count on me to absolutely give up. I get it from my absent father to just abandon things. Jokes! It’s scary how many things I gave up on just in 2025 alone. And it’s a shame because some of them were really solid.

In this season, I need to stop being a cliche. I need to start moving mad and confusing the enemy. The enemy of progress is clearly aware that inconvenience is my kryptonite, so I need to change that. I need to become new wineskin so that God can pour new wine into me without me bursting. Is it gonna hurt? Oh absolutely it will.
