#1 My Blogging Journey

If you are reading this, you already know that I am a Zimbabwean blogger.

I have been blogging for 3 years since my time at varsity. Its changed a lot over the years, from Blogspot to WordPress. It started off called, “As Told By The Zulugirl.” From there it became, “The Complicatxn.” And now its simply called, “Thembi Terry.’ I dropped my surname for when I marry and I become something that isn’t a Zulu. I have been toying with the idea of changing it to, “Inganekwane ZeNgudukazi.” It sounds so ethnic which is pretty cool.

Why do you love to blog?

It gives me the outlet I need to disseminate my propaganda
It’s a good way to spend my time
Sometimes I make money from it
I love the attention it has gotten me.

Where are you going with it?

Ay, I am like Abraham, I don’t know where I am going. I just know that its building up to the zenith of my career. I just need to keep laying a brick at a time until Rome is built. Being an influencer is gonna be a thing and when it blows up, Imma be right there in the front line. I love being a storyteller but I haven’t the guts to do it live on stage. My blog will forever be my soapbox.

How has blogging developed you?

I hardly ever have to introduce myself now. People know the name and can recognise the face. It has helped me forge relationships and collaborations which I never would have otherwise. It has taught me discipline and sometimes it has humbled me. Blogging has challenged me to read, research and know more about the craft. I have projects that I have created along the lines of blogging which will be lucrative income streams. I now have to constantly push myself to be more creative and more entertaining to compete in this industry.

What keeps you blogging?

The messages from people that relate to my content. When I don’t post, they start to ask why I am not producing new content. I am held accountable by my audience now. I must feed the addiction I created. Sometimes, I meet people in the strangest places that will start quoting lines from my blogs and it makes me feel like hey you’re like making headway. The opportunities that sprout up as a result of my blog are another push factor that keep me going when I start to get lethargic.
