Curiosity killed the cat, we know that. What we didn’t know is that we are the cat! Most of the problems that we are facing in our daily lives are rooted in NOT knowing. In the NOT knowing, we start to seek out answers we have no business pursuing using means that are not best practices.
Proverbs 20:19 He who goes about as a gossip reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with a gossip [who talks freely or flatters].
Right out the gate, it’s gossip. The grapevine is an in sanctioned way of receiving information regarding a matter. The source may be unreliable. Not because they are liars, nah, they could be just illiterate and misunderstand some stuff. Gossip is one of those sins that just leads to more associated sins such as lying, bearing false witness, slander, cursing, careless words, coveting and wounds in the innermost parts of the belly. Misery loves company and so does gossip. Gossip is a group assignment. You not only commit the sin, but you also recruit other people to indulge in it with you as well.

1 Samuel 28:7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.”
When you go out seeking answers from the wrong places, you’ll find the answers you’re looking for. As an added bonus, they’ll also give you recommendations or solutions to that problem that will only get you deeper in the hole. For example, you go to a sangoma about a sore arm, they will confirm that and accuse someone as the culprit. On top of that, they’ll also recommend how to avenge yourself against the accused. Healing the arm becomes a secondary issue to you. And just like that, you’ve become the witch and attacked an unsuspecting victim.
In my podcast episode about The Devil’s Secrets, I covered how people perish due to a lack of knowledge — of God. We read that scripture and assume we ought to know everything about everything, but that’s not true. The amount of information we get now through social media, we can go our whole lives without ever knowing it. I personally believe that we know too much about our celebrities than I care for. Personally, knowing too much and having too many options gave me severe ‘Choice Paradox’. I had to dial it back a bit and opt to know less.
John 8:44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
When we ask the darkness for answers, we need to understand that the Bible describes their boss as the father of lies. Which means they only know how to lie. As long as you aren’t hearing from God, you’re being lied to. And here’s the thing about a good lie, it closely resembles the truth otherwise you’d know it was an outright lie. So, it’s 80% truth and 20% lies. But that 20% sure does pack a punch in the grand scheme of things. When we truly grasp that the thief only comes to kill, steal and destroy, it will do us a world of good.
Some things that we go to the occult to learn answers about are so trivial. “Is the partner I’m dating the one?” You’ll straight up ask this with all the red flags flying right in front of your face. Instead of working hard you’re busy seeking out occultists asking them if you’ll ever be rich. One of the reasons why we avoid going to God to ask Him these things is because we know God’s answer, and we don’t like it, so we seek out a second opinion. The lie coddles, it comforts, but it also derails.
1 Kings 22:8-28 The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”
How has the not knowing affected your life? In what ways has it misled you. How far have you gone to find answers? Can you be honest with yourself about how far down the wrong path not knowing has dragged you? Have you had to turn to tarot cards, numerology, spirit guides, shamans, sangomas, njuzus, palm readers, star signs, false prophets, bibliomacy? Nothing good can come out of a lie. It’s time to repent and ask the Lord to erase all the lies in your mind that have informed your decisions and misled you. Some of these, such as astrology can even embed themselves into your personality and warp your true identity.
What if we didn’t give into the curiosity? What if we didn’t look for the source of our problems in other places? What if we accepted that we don’t know everything and that’s okay? When we get curious and search for answers in the wrong places, we ruin things. We get lied to, manipulated and misled. Only trouble can come of it.
We don’t have the capacity to know everything, but we serve a God who does. He will let you know what’s up on a need to know basis. God is always speaking, but are you tuned in to His frequency. Only one being in the Bible tried to ascend itself to God’s level, and we know how that ended. Seek ye first the kingdom and knowledge of God. Develop a relationship with him so that you can know His voice. Cut out the middle man and hear everything straight from the source. Let the all-knowing, omnipresent God guide your life and your decisions.
