One thing group assignments taught me is the true meaning of being unequally yoked. Every place I’ve worked has had a weak link that can’t seem to get their job done. The weak links from my last two jobs I nearly physically assaulted at work, during work hours so that they can at least claim NSSA (insurance for workplace injuries), I’m not completely heartless.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally bound together with unbelievers [do not make mismatched alliances with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership can righteousness have with lawlessness? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
Having someone close by who hasn’t done the work in their walk with the Lord is risky. I like to put it like this, let’s say we stay in a hostel, but one person likes to leave the door unlocked. When the thief comes in to rob the hostel, he won’t just rob the person who left the door open. He’ll rob every one of as much as they can carry. The weak link is an open door. Shut that door once and for all.
Proverbs 25:28 Like a city that is broken down and without walls [leaving it unprotected] Is a man who has no self-control over his spirit [and sets himself up for trouble].
When the enemy can’t get at you, they will use the weak link in your life. Because the weak link has zero spiritual defences, they are an AirBnB for a host of demons. They are the direct line the underworld use to monitor you, discourage you and derail you. Think about this, who is that one person that every time you’re on the brink of something great, they start acting up and being weird? Now you’re distracted by their feelings instead of the mission.

Jonah 1:7 “Come!” said the sailors to one another. “Let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity that is upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
Jonah was the weak link in the boat. Imagine you’re coming from overseas, you’ve got your stock, capital depleted, and you throw all of that overboard because death is staring at you right in the face. After you’ve emptied the cargo, that’s when you realise the real problem is actually Jonah. But that doesn’t bring your stock back. I blogged about this before and how every time you invite that one person into your plans, ideas, they are dead on arrival. Take note of all your close ones whom you make plans with that never amount to anything.

Can we also talk about the strenuous effort that goes into keeping up an unequally yoked relationship? Even the simplest thing like a conversation is hard. It’s like being at the Tower of Babel and all of a sudden we’re speaking two different languages. Leviathan likes to interrupt comms and people start hearing things that weren’t said. And you look back on that conversation, and you realise pafamba satan. For a moment there, you question your sanity. Am I the crazy person?

You also can’t trust the counsel of the weak link. You literally have to “get thee behind me, satan” them at least once a week. Let me put it like this, I’m a Christian, and you’re into ancestral worship, when I’m faced with a problem, you’ll want to take my problems to an altar that I don’t believe in. You’re just trying to help, but what fellowship hath light with darkness? You can’t hold someone accountable to a belief system they don’t believe in. For example, as a Zimbabwean I can’t be held to the South African constitution, I’m not a South African. If they don’t love the Lord the way you do, they don’t care about what his Bible says, either. And one thing about the enemy? He’s always recruiting.
1 Kings 22:30 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
The unequally yoked have no shy to throw you under the bus for their convenience. If push came to shove, they would shove you under the bus. If it came to life or death, they would choose their life at the expense of your death. In 1 Kings 22:29-37, we see the king persuade his ally to wear his royal robes while the king would go into battle in disguise. He knew full well that in battle, the whole endgame is to annihilate the king, and yet he set up his ally to be a target in war. If your unequally yoked uncle needs to make a blood sacrifice for quick riches, he doesn’t mind that sacrifice being you.
If the Lord has warned you multiple times about that relationship, and you keep holding on to it, you won’t like the way that person will throw you overboard. Cause if you won’t let them go, God will make them let you go. I’m telling you now, it hurts so bad!
